When I think about luxury hotels, the words sophistication, class, and elegance come to mind. Houston has a plethora of luxury hotels that all have a contemporary style. However, Hotel Icon is a luxury hotel that truly stands out from the rest. With its historic charm, I was incredibly amazed at the unique style of this award-winning hotel. In fact, when conversing with one of the staff, they even mentioned that celebrities like Jennifer Lopez, Keri Hilson, and Beyonce have all stayed at Hotel Icon numerous times. The opportunity to finally get the chance to experience Hotel Icon myself was a staycation I’ll never forget!
HOTEL ICON STAYCATION REVIEW
What makes a hotel experience unforgettable? For me, it’s when even the simplest, ordinary things about a hotel, such as checking-in, are moments that make you feel welcomed and special. When I walked inside the hotel, a tall gentleman immediately assisted me with opening the door so I can seamlessly step right inside. Although I already had an idea of what the hotel lobby looked like prior to my visit, nothing could prepare me seeing the cascading crystal chandeliers and vintage ambiance in person. I felt like I was entering inside the Great Gatsby’s house!
While checking-in, the hotel front staff were so welcoming when they assisted me receiving my hotel keys and explaining all the hotel’s amenities. My first encounter with the staff gave me the impression that they truly enjoy serving customers from their professionalism and personable manner. As I was walking towards the elevators, I noticed a side table with refreshments that were complimentary to all hotel guests. I was delighted to take some of their snacks before heading to the elevators.
While waiting by the elevators, I couldn’t help but stare at this magnificent area of the hotel! Prior to it being a historic hotel, Hotel Icon was once a Union National Bank. I loved that they still preserved a lot of the architecture and design during that time period with the vintage books and unique glass mirror elevators. From what I see on social media, this area is definitely a popular spot for guests to take photos!
Once I reached my hotel room, I immediately dropped my bags and plopped on my bed! While the appliances inside, such as the phone, mini fridge, and TV, were contemporary, I adored the vintage touches of the hotel room! From the blue wooden side tables, suede couches, printed flooring, and marbled tiles, it felt like a palace. The best part of my hotel room? The bathroom! I feel like I could spend all day inside pampering myself with the extraordinary space! The bathroom includes a bathtub with sliding windows that can be viewed in the bed area. It also has a rain shower, toilet, floor length mirror, and a marbled sink counter area. The hotel room definitely made me feel like I was a princess! With the amazing view of the Historic Market Square outside my windows, I felt right at home!
A highlight from my experience staying at Hotel Icon was when I dined at Line and Lariat! The luxury restaurant offers breakfast, lunch, and dinner; even outside visitors are welcomed to eat here! I decided to try their iconic breakfast buffet, and the food did not disappoint. Their food consisted of pancakes, assorted meats, eggs, tortillas, biscuits and gravy, assorted bread, oatmeals, parfaits, a variety of cereal, seasonal fruits, and tropical juices. I enjoyed dining with the luxurious seating and beautiful chandeliers above me! It was easily the most sophisticated breakfast experience I’ve ever dined at in Houston. If you want to experience eating at Line and Lariat, I would also suggest dining here when they have live music! You can make reservations online in their website here.
If you decide to leave the hotel for some local fun, Hotel Icon is the perfect place to stay to experience Houston’s Historic Street Market! There are so many local food eateries that are surrounding Market Street Park. The area also has a historic, but trendy, ambiance. Plus, you can easily access the Houston Metro Train to visit other landmarks in Houston! If you plan to primarily stay in Downtown, I’d suggest parking your car in Hotel Icon’s valet parking and taking a stroll around the amazing places that are within walking distance from Hotel Icon.
What do you like best about my experience? Let me know in the comments below! Huge thank you to the PR team and staff at Hotel Icon and Line and Lariat for the wonderful staycation experience! I also want to thank Ann Marie for helping me take photos around the hotel. If you’re ever in Houston, she’s perfect for portrait photography! Until next time!
