How to Dress for Austin, TX

Austin, TX’s style is unlike any other in Texas. Every time I visit, I get a new sense of inspiration from their casual, boho, free-spirited vibe. When I was walking down 6th Street, I loved how experimental people are with their sense of style so much that I felt compelled to make an entire post about how to dress for the city. Although you can pretty much wear anything you want and get away with it in Austin, I came up with 5 different trends and pieces that any Austinite will approve.

1. Edgy Denim Pieces

Austinites tend to dress casual on a daily basis and denim is definitely a huge trend in the city. I love how effortless denim can make an outfit look! From shorts to dresses, you can really incorporate denim into any style. The denim pieces I chose reflect some Austin flair with details such as embroidery, shape, colored wash, and distressed rips. Any of these pieces would make you fit in with the crowd in the best way.

2. Boho Jewelry

Out of all the cities in Texas, boho is definitely a style that is embodied most in Austin. Intricately engraved metal jewelry with stone accents can really complete your boho style and give it a free-spirited vibe. I was so amazed with the many options there were when finding affordable boho jewelry. I am currently a sucker for gold chokers and dangling earrings with stone accents (as shown above). Best part is, all of the jewelry I discovered are all under $10! Such a great deal!

3. ​Sandals 4 Life

The everyday Austin girl enjoys walking comfortably, and sandals are a great way to combine both style and comfort! When finding a pair, I tried to chose styles that can work well during day errands, work, and a night out in the town. Having a trusty pair of sandals that can elevate your outfit with ease is the dream goal! Currently, finding flat sandals with pretty tie straps up to the mid-calf are popular and can make your calves appear slimmer due to the zig-zag tie pattern when strapping around the leg. However, if you’re wearing pants, I suggest choosing flat sandals with unique designs in neutral colors for a trendy and classic look.

4. Graphic Tees with a Statement

Don’t be afraid to pull off a bold style, and wearing a graphic tee is a subtle way of speaking your mind! Austin is known for the amazing food, live music, friendly strangers, and pet-happy lifestyle. I chose a few graphic tees that really captured the culture of Austin. If you paired a graphic tee with a denim piece (as mentioned in trend #1) then boom! Your casual Austin swag is set!

5. ​Bags That Can Carry All

Okay, so maybe it’s the college student population or the amount of IT companies that reside in the city that make bags a thing. I noticed that most of the people in Austin tend to carry their whole lives inside their bag and I am not hatin’ on it. I love how purses and backpacks can make an outfit stand out. With all the colors, prints, and designs out there, your fashion dream goals can easily be attainable. The bags and totes that I’ve chosen would work great for back-to-school, traveling, or working your 9-5.
