It was an adventure visiting New York early this year as I intentionally missed the crazy crowds of New York Fashion Week. As much as I enjoyed visiting NYFW last year (click for my NYFW blog post), I wanted to explore the city alone for a change. It was late February, and I was contemplating on “how cold is too cold” while packing for the Manhattan winter season. It was my first time visiting the city during the winter months, and if I had a dollar for every time I asked myself,” What should I wear?” I’d be rich enough to buy myself a new wardrobe for this entire trip!Needless to say, I got the shivers while I was bearing the cold winds and icy rain during the first few days…but I quickly learned a lot of the locals’ NYC style. With the amount of time I was waiting at subway stations and crossing busy intersections, I was taking mental notes of the outfits that differentiated the true New Yorker from the tourist. All the key trends and styles in NYC that want to know are here for me to spill as you click through and shop all the featured items!

HYGGE STYLE
Although “hygge” is originally coined from the Danish lifestyle, the hygge fashion trends are definitely apparent in the streets of New York. You’ll see lots of oversized fluffy sweaters, cardigans, coats with soft denim or stretchy, comfortable pants for a cozy vibe. The idea of dressing in clothes that “feel nice” over what “looks nice” is true for the every day routine of a local. To achieve this look, I love pairing chunky sweatersknitted scarves, and loose-fitted coats for a casual, warm winter look.

CLASSIC NEUTRALS
Want to look more polished? How about some tailored items with classic designs that make you look like a boss lady? In the city that never sleeps, people go from place to place without ever changing their outfit throughout the day. Looking sharp in neutral colors that effortlessly mix and match is an amazing way to have great style. Dressing down a black blazer or wearing a double-breasted khaki collar coat are perfect pieces for an easy, on-the-go city look.

ATHLEISURE STYLE
Supermodels like Gigi Hadid are making the athleisure style trendy for days! While it was also known for being the “model off duty” street look, I like how this style gives an sporty spin to casual outfits. Plus, you’ll feel comfortable forever! The Adidas Superstars are a popular favorite on social media, but pair that with matching jogger pants and a cropped hoodie and you’re good to go! Although many athleisure clothing can be pricey, it’s a great investment piece to wear before, during, and/or after a workout.

BOOTS IN ALL SHAPES AND SIZES
I don’t think I’ve known a New Yorker who doesn’t own a pair of boots! Boots are such a stylish and comfortable shoe item when you are actively walking for long periods of time. Boots come in all shapes and sizes that can easily transition in all seasons. Plus, when you own a boot that is flat or has a little heel, is it arguably even more comfortable than a pair of sneakers! Dr. Marten’s have amazing quality boots that are practical and can be worn in a variety of ways, and tall wedged boots are a comfortable and stylish option for Fall and Winter.
