Thank you to Onyx Hotel Austin for hosting my stay. All opinions expressed are my own.
It’s hard to believe that, within a mere 272 square mile city, there’s a fascinating charm compacted inside Austin, TX. Yet, with their huge food scene, innovative music events, and thriving tech industry, more people are coming to Austin to get a taste of what makes the city so spectacular. Besides going back and forth from Houston, my home, I don’t normally visit the same city twice within a year. However, I’ve been given more reasons to stop by the state capital of Texas.Sightseeing around a city wouldn’t nearly be as fun without having the best lodging. After traveling for a few years, I learned how important it was to find a hotel that can make me feel right at home. For that reason, I am constantly on the lookout for finding hotels that would provide me a unique experience and comfortable stay. Luckily, I found those qualities at Onyx Hotel Austin’s Retro Chic Suite when I stayed for the weekend.
Right when I entered inside the room, I noticed the “Love” sign right above the fireplace and immediately felt welcomed to the city. What makes the Retro Chic Suite so unique is that your condo room has features such as a fire place, kitchen, and washer/dryer in comparison to a standard hotel room. Because of this, the Retro Chic Suite experience has a cozy, home vibe. Along with the contemporary-styled furnish, I adored the pastel blue painted walls throughout the suite. Based on its interior design and amenities, I believe that the Retro Chic Suite can be particularly suitable for young women or couples who are staying in Austin long-term.
Bedrooms are a huge factor into determining how much I will be comfortable during my stay. The layout of the room is minimalistic and spacious, and when I laid eyes on my bed, I was ready to jump in joy! However, when I noticed that there was a remote lying on top of my comforters for the flat-screen TV directly in front of my bed, that’s when I really started celebrating. Who wouldn’t want to binge watch before bed time?I instantly felt at ease knowing that I could simply relax, watch TV, and work on my laptop (with free Wi-Fi) after a long day. With little time to spare from my busy schedule, I was already unpacking my luggage and organizing my room when I noticed the beautiful view of the pool outside my window. Although I did not get the chance to swim during my trip, it is definitely something I will look forward to at my next stay.
What surprisingly blew me away was the kitchen. The kitchen. As a person who enjoys ordering takeout on the regular, I suddenly felt the need to buy groceries and learn how to cook dinner for once. I’m sure my family will be quite pleased to hear that granite counter tops and classy kitchen appliances will do the trick to lessen my food dining budget. And of course, I really appreciated the bathroom and dining area. Although they are the smaller sized areas of the entire suite, they make a huge difference in one’s stay. I was pleased with how cohesive the bathroom and dining area’s color scheme was with the rest of the condo. Also, the bathroom has walking access straight to the bedroom. With the plenty of mirrors throughout the suite, getting ready in the mornings has never been easier. For me, I enjoyed my mornings drinking coffee from the balcony while watching the sunrise.
During my stay, I was fortunate enough to have everything within walking distance. This was a huge pro for me since I did not bring a car with me for this particular trip. As a young female solo traveler, I felt safe walking alone early in the morning and late at night when I wanted to explore Austin. The amount of restaurants, museums, bars, and shops around the block were more than enough to fulfill my weekend stay. I realized during my trip how rare it was to find free parking in Austin, so I was glad to be able to accommodate my friends with my free parking spot when they visited me at my condo suite. What made me most pleased with my stay was the service. The instructions and details enclosed in my email were easy to follow, and if I had any questions, I was given immediate assistance and accommodation. My stay wouldn’t be half as special without the help of Thomas and Ryan! My entire stay at the Retro Chic Suite was so enjoyable, that it was easily the highlight of my trip in Austin.

I’m completely unfamiliar with Austin, so it’s good to know there’s a chic place like Onyx Hotel to stay if I visit! You’re totally right about the Love sign, it makes you feel already at home. That’s so different there’s a kitchen inside, it must really have felt more like your own home!

I lived in Austin for about a year. It really is a great city; so much music and nightlife. Your suite was adorable! I wish I had those countertops in my house. I’m glad you had a great stay!

Agh! I’ve always wanted to go to Austin, not only for their oh so famous liberal way of lifestyle, even though its a plus… but because it offers so much more, endless amount of amazing food choices, activities, and just regular day-to-day fun! I’ll definitely consider The Onyx Hotel when ever I do make it, it goes along with the cities vibes!!

Sounds like a fab place. A kitchen is a massive bonus for us, as travelling with kids, the cost of eating out really adds up! And the fact that it’s within walking distance to everywhere is a massive plus too! We loved Texas but never made it to Austin so it’s high on the list for next time!
