Before I was traveling to Iceland early this month, I did a little party dance while I was packing. The cold weather, layers of thermal clothing, and winter accessories meant that my face will be covered up for the majority of time. It made me thought, ” I don’t have to bring a lot of beauty products, right?” At least, that’s what I thought when I brought half the amount of makeup with me for the trip. However, once I arrived at the airport, I realized that my combination oily skin was not used to the cold climate of Iceland! I was battling with dry, flaky skin (sorry for the TMI). With the help of my travel squad during my trip, I found out new products that helped my skin conquer the blazing winds of one of the coldest countries in the world:
1. Tea Tree Oil
Having acne breakouts during trips are the worst, and when I noticed huge cysts appearing around my jawline, I freaked out! Thankfully, a friend let me use some of her tea tree oil to apply overnight and I was instantly hooked with the amazing results within the following morning. Many people claim that tea tree oil works as effective as benzoyl peroxide, but from the looks of my skin, it has made my face look clearer and glowier. Best part about tea tree oil is that it’s incredibly affordable, too!
2. Hand lotion
Although this is a huge essential when you’re packing for any trip, I recommend bringing along the most moisturizing, heavy duty hand lotion you own. Aveeno is one of the few brands I can depend on when it comes to moisturizing my skin! When I was walking for long hours out in the cold taking photos, I noticed a difference in my skin’s texture towards the end of the day. As a result, the skin around my cuticles were peeling out when I returned back home from Iceland. So, avoid the flaky, dry hands epidemic and bring a travel sized hand lotion with you!
3. Liquid/Cream based makeup products
Because of my Filipino-Texan roots, my skin is normally oily, and I always purchased products that promised a powder matte-finished makeup look. However, throughout my time in Iceland, I remembered thinking that the cold winds made my makeup appear dry and dare I say, clumpy? It may not be necessary for everyone to keep in mind, but with my combo-oily skin, I definitely wished I had a cream blush, bronzer, and highlighter with me. Drugstore brands like, Rimmel and Revlon have amazing products! It would’ve also saved me packing space from all the makeup brushes I brought!
With my lack of knowledge prior to the trip, I hoped it gained some new insight to any travelers traveling to a cold climate country like Iceland! What do you guys think about this list? Are there any other beauty products you would add? Let chat about it in the comments below!
