Living in Texas for over 5 months has really made me question how I could continue to experience the world while staying at home. I’ve either been spending most of my days working inside my bedroom or enjoying more time with immediate family. While the change has been steady, I feel like I’m now perfectly content with my new lifestyle. So much of my daily routine consists on projects, music, and spending time with Rajah – and it’s been relaxing to be on this pandemic break.
During the summer, I’ve grown an interest in home decor. I find it exciting when I see beautiful rooms filled with creative designs, colors, and patterns (thanks to Pinterest). Since I have not been traveling like I normally do, I decided to “bring” the traveling to me with decorating my own room with a multicultural design. With inspiration from my own personal travels, I have created a fun list of decor items that would make your home feel like you’re in vacation mode, too.
Decorate Your Home with Items Inspired from Around the World
Feel free to scroll down and click through the items below! Just want you to keep in mind that while many of these items could crossover to other places, this post is my personal take on what items has inspired me from these specific beautiful countries. Enjoy!
Mexico
When I was visiting Tulum, I fell in love with the beach vibes there! The beach hotel where I stayed at had lots of bed frames, table decor, chairs with a bohemian design. I also noticed that a lot of the materials were handmade from straw and rattan – which gives a very stylish flair with neutral color patterns. I also enjoyed the colorful embroidery work with pillows and hammocks.

USA
As I was visiting different cities around the US, I noticed the contemporary designs of many rental homes and hotels. I believe that America has a distinct style that consists of glassware, leather, and tall, metal lighting fixtures. For flair, abstract art and geometric-shaped items are placed in some spots in the room. Overall, interior design in the US has a chic and modern look that feels high-class and luxurious.

Phillipines
I love the earthy tones and design of the Philippines! Items in the Philippines are often made from bananas leaves, shells, coconut, and bamboo. It gives a very tropical, ethereal aesthetic to a room in an effortless way. The decor of the Philippines resembles a lot of the nature and its natural resources.

Iceland
In Iceland, I was fond of the historic design of the turf houses in Reykjavík. So much of the structure of turf houses are built from wood and stone, which gives a warm and cozy look. The interior decor can range from wool, blankets, and wooden items, which can make anyone feel the simple joys of an Icelandic home. The design can best be described as minimalistic and comfortable.

Costa Rica
The pura vida is full of pizazz and joy! I think that Costa Rican interior design is vibrant with a good balance of ceramic, clay, and tile decor. I think that clashing color schemes and bold prints are what makes the interior design of Costa Rica really eye-catching and fun. So much of the beauty of the country is reflected on seeing bright, colorful shades everywhere you go.
