As a born and raised Houstonian, I was blown away by the improvement of the coastal city since I last visited. Personally, I didn’t have a very good impression of Galveston Island five years ago. I remembered how the sand was discolored from the tornado and storms. There was so much seaweed and litter on the beach, it was even closed during spring break one year due to water contaminants. I was a bit hesitant to visit, but I knew I needed a staycation from the city life.
This was one of the few trips where I didn’t have an itinerary. I had no epic plans or a list of sight-seeing places. I took my time watching the waves roll pass me as I listened to the seagulls. It was a great experience walking along the Galveston Sea Wall and appreciating the charm of the city. I left the city with a huge peace of mind.
I’m so happy to say that my impression of Galveston has drastically changed. The beaches are clean and clear, the sand actually looks like sand, and there are so many sightseeing areas along the beach. Unlike the party beach cities, spending a week day at Galveston beach was secluded, quiet, and serene. It definitely was a great escape from my every day routine. I hope you enjoy some of my photos during my impromptu staycation!

Ohmygoodness! This looks so pretty! I had no idea there was a beach just one hour away from Houston. Are the waters warm?
