If there’s one thing I’ve learned from the Disney movie, Lilo and Stitch, it’s that family means no one gets left behind…or forgotten. I would not have overcome the challenges I faced in 2020 if it weren’t for my family – especially my pet, Rajah. For those of you who don’t know, my dog son and I are two peas in a pod. We are inseparable and he has been by my side for the good, bad, and confusing times of this year. Like Lilo, Rajah became a part of my life out of nowhere. I was still grieving my first pet dog when I first laid eyes on Rajah, but I knew I was supposed to be his owner the moment he licked my face and fell asleep on my lap. This Halloween costume reflects our silly, happy, and loyal relationship. If you want to know our past costumes, check out this post.
If you’re thinking about recreating this costume for Halloween at an affordable price, then I’m here to help you to make it happen! Thankfully, this costume duo only requires 5 items (and that is including the fake hair bangs), so keep on scrolling to find out how you can shop for them today!
How to be Lilo and Stitch for Halloween
Lilo Costume
Dress
Lilo’s clothing items require wearing a dress and some flip flops! I was inspired by the movie promo ad where Lilo was sitting on a hammock playing the ukulele with Stitch on a beach. While I don’t live near the beach, I felt like taking photos in a picnic setting was the next best option for me. You can easily DIY the dress, but since Lilo’s dress was on sale at Hot Topic, I felt like it was more price effective to order it this year instead. If you’re watching this and it’s not available in Hot Topic anymore, here is an alternative option that is also very similar.
Sandals
Based on the movie, Lilo predominantly wore flip flops/sandals throughout the film (which was impressive if you ask me since aliens were trying to take over Earth). I personally feel like any pair of flip flops would work since her shoes did not hold meaningfulness in the film (i.e. glass slipper in Cinderella). So, I opted to wear yellow flip flops that I already owned, but here are some flip flops are that affordable and comfortable for you to try!
Flower Clip
The flower clip is completely optional, but I felt like it really enhanced the outfit! I personally believe it adds a tropical touch to the look, and wearing the flower clip reminded me of my days in Hawaii! You can easily DIY this item by buying a single faux hibiscus or orchid flower and hot glue it to a bobby pin. However, you can also get some great options when you shop them at Amazon.
Bangs
Again, wearing bangs is optional! However, I felt like Lilo’s hairstyle was such a huge part of her character that I wanted to go for it. If you already have straight, dark hair – you should be fine. For me, I personally already own a pair of fake bangs and wanted to find another excuse to wear them again, so tada! Today, you can find some fake clip-on bangs – but it is a little difficult to find them at a reasonable price. If you are interested in owning a pair for yourself, these fake bangs look pretty identical to mine.
Stitch Costume
For your pet, I was able to purchase the Stitch costume online from the Disney store! In fact, when I purchased it, there was a huge discount. However, you can also easily DIY the Stitch costume with adding a hood from a plain blue dog shirt. I found a YouTube video that gave a great DIY tutorial about it when I was considering in making one myself. However, there are many option below that you can choose from!
