If it’s one thing I’ve learned about myself while traveling, it’s that I can never get over the fact that I can’t carry all of my 3.4 fluid oz makeup products when I’m packing one carry on luggage. Do I really have to make all my liquid products fit inside one plastic bag? When I was packing for my Nomoon Retreat to Mexico, I realized that I had to limit the amount of beauty products I brought to the essential items great for tropical weather: sweat-proof, easy to apply on-the-go, and has SPF. This trip inspired me to take on the challenge of sharing with you the top five beauty products I have used daily while I was traveling in Mexico. If you checked out my Instagram, just know that I wasn’t staying in a resort the entire trip. Oh no no no….I was snorkeling, climbing a pyramid, swimming in caves, zip lining, walking around Mayan Ruins…all the activities that made my trip filled with outdoor adventures. These five beauty products made the cut for me for enduring the hot climate while making me super photogenic in photos.
1. Estee Lauder DayWear Moisturizer
This product was the most coveted for my face when I was touring around Mexico. The weather was incredibly hot, so I knew I needed an SPF moisturizer that would be perfect for outdoor activities! This product not only has SPF 50 to protect your skin from the UV rays, but it also has anti-oxidant ingredients that prevents wrinkles. What I love about this product is that it doesn’t smell like any ordinary sunscreen. It actually has a subtle floral-clean scent that is very pleasant (the scent fades after application), and it doesn’t make my foundation look greasy when I apply it underneath my makeup. I purchased this product in a tube because of the lightweight, efficient packing versus a creme jar, and applying a dime-size amount each day is enough! Although Estee Lauder has a huge rep for marketing makeup to middle age women, this product is a holy grail for me when I visit hot and humid countries.
2. Etude House Proof 10 Eye Primer
Because I had girl night outs during the Nomoon Mexico trip, I wanted to sport a lot of eye makeup looks! Ever since I purchased this eye primer from Etude House, my life changed forever! My skin is combination-oily, and I always struggle with having creased eye shadow towards the end of the day. Not to mention, I also deal with having eye shadow smudges that appear in flash photos! Because this makeup line has ingredients catered towards the Asian demographic, I feel like this eye primer is incredibly long wearing for my skin and doesn’t oxidize the coloration of the eye shadow pigments I apply over it. I personally prefer this product over the Urban Decay eye primers, but I always recommend people to test out a product to see what best works for your skin. To me, this eye primer is holy grail!
3. Revlon Photoready Translucent Powder
With my skin, there’s no way I can leave the house without setting translucent powder on it! I’ve used Revlon Photoready translucent powder over my makeup for years, and although I can’t guarantee that this product is better than Lauren Mercier’s, it definitely gets the job done for the reasonable price! I like how this product is in a compact packaging with the powder pressed- definitely travel friendly! I find that the product sets best with a kabuki brush. Because this product is a fraction of the cost for a Laura Mercier powder, I think that this translucent powder is great quality! I recommend this over the counter makeup product for “baking” the face when you apply the powder in a patting motion with a kabuki brush.
4. Clinique Pore Refining Instant Perfector Corrector
This product is a real OG in my makeup collection because I have large pores around my T-zone! Because I live in a hot climate, my pores never get any rest when it comes to dealing with oily sweat ( I know, it’s pretty gross.) After using my moisturizer/face primer, I apply this Clinique product and have it set before I begin applying my foundation. Throughout time, I noticed the difference in my skin texture when I use it versus when I skip this step in my makeup routine. Because hot, humid countries are going to produce more oil in our sweat glands, it’s great to use a product that helps minimize the appearance of your pore size. For this product, I only use a pea-size amount in the T-zone area once each day.
5. Bare Mineral Marvelous Moxie Lipgloss
Lastly, if you ever travel to a beautiful destination, the worst thing to experience is having sunburnt, dry lips! After using Bare Mineral’s lip glosses over time, I started to appreciate the quality of their makeup line. The lipglosses don’t have a goopy, sticky finish, and they feel super moisturized while giving a nice flush of color. Although the lip gloss is not long lasting, it does leave my lips feeling super soft. The lip gloss shades in Marvelous Moxie have a slight tint to them, so this product is great for a variety of makeup looks. For special occasions, I would apply a bold lipstick over the lip gloss, and it brings out the most natural shine!
It’s such an amazing feeling to have go-to makeup products for my tropical travel destinations! Although I am still experimenting with new makeup products, you can expect to see me bringing them in my future adventures. Do you have a holy grail makeup product for travel?
