Now that summer is approaching, vacation season is right around the corner! I can only imagine how much people are anxiously waiting for the semester to be over and head to tropical beach weather! I wanted to share with you current beauty and fashion items that I pack for my carry-on, which are TSA approved (always a plus)! So whether you are going for international or domestic flights, you are always prepared to travel in style.
1. Reusable filtered water bottle
A lot of people don’t realize how water filtration is different in many countries, and if you were not born and raised in similar conditions, chances are that the water will make you sick. I don’t have the strongest digestive system, so drinking tap water is not the best choice for me. I was also surprised at how water can be pricey in some areas of the world. I love the “bobble water bottles” because I can bring it with me, fill it up in a water fountain at the airport, and tada! Free drink! As you drink, the water inside the bottle is filtered, so every drop of the water you’re tasting is fresh and clean. Also, it’s great to use when you’re sightseeing and may not get a chance to stop at a store during the day. The bobble is an easy way for a traveler to have access to clean water, it’s convenient to carry in your backpack, and it’s only $10 at Target.

2. Sunglasses
This is a no brainer if you’re traveling to a warm climate! Sunglasses help your eyeballs from the UV rays and prevents sunburn around the eye area. Plus, this summer is all about wearing colorful, reflective lenses like the ones I bought at Guess. Other popular sunglass brands that you can purchase online are Quay, but a personal favorite is a website called Sunglass Spot where every pair only costs $5! Besides wearing them at your summer getaway, I also like to wear them when I’m waiting at the gate. The shades just help keep strangers from starting conversations with me. Going through TSA is stressful for me, so having a relaxing moment where I’m listening to music, checking on my Instagram (@ressamazing- check it out!), and listening to audible before my flight is ideal.

3. Lip balm
Air flights can leave your lips super flaky and dry, so I always keep a lip balm in my carry-on. I normally apply before the flight and as the plane begins to land. I easily nap on the plane, so sleeping on a plane, open mouthed WITH a dry, circulated air vent is not exactly the best thing for your lips. I really dig the brand LUSH (all thanks to Tim!) because they use natural ingredients and their lip balm is slightly tinted in a shimmery bronze shade. Plus, the flavor latte smells super sugary! I’m so obsessed.

4. Nail polish
Okay, so not exactly a necessity, but ladies, raise your hand if your nails have gotten chipped during a vacation? Yeah, that’s right. I ain’t crazy. I really adore the Sally Hansen Miracle Gel polishes because they don’t chip easily ( I play guitar and my index finger has been chip free for 1-2 wks! Hoorah!) and they come in all sorts of pretty colors for the summer time. Pink is my favorite color, so of course I chose the polish in “Pink Up” with the top coat. Plus, purchasing a pair of these polishes for $9 versus having a gel manicure at a salon for $25 is a pretty sweet deal.

5. Travel- Size Liquid Makeup
I’m so glad that more makeup brands are making travel size options for consumers! Yasssss! When I saw the Benefit Cosmetics Vending Machine at the John F. Kennedy International Airport, I knew I had to buy the mini sized primer in “That Gal”, pore minimizer in “The PoreFessional”, and illuminizer in “Girl Meets Pearl.” A little bit of product goes a long way, and even with five months of travel, I am not half way done with using up the products. Not so bad for $10!

6. Mini Eye Shadow Palette
With every makeup guru purchasing the palettes that come in 150 shadows this summer, I’m the 1% who’s shouting, “I just want an eye shadow palette that’s super small and comes with a mirror!” I really enjoy using the Tarte Tease palette that recently launched because they come in fun shades, but they are perfect for everyday wear. This is the only eye shadow palette I bring, and I never get sick of the colors and different looks I can make with them. I also think this is a great eye shadow palette for young girls starting to apply makeup, as well as adults who work 9-5 and are on the go! So whether you are traveling all summer or working, I think this is perfect for any one who wants to play up their eyes.

7. Mini travel brushes
Come to mama! I dig the Real Techniques brushes, and I was so happy when I discovered that they come travel-sized! First off, the brushes fit the palm of my hand- so cute. But, they are actually really handy when you’re applying makeup on the plane or when you’re doing touch-ups during the day. I normally apply my makeup with my fingers, but I have started to notice a big difference when I applied my makeup using brushes. With short, tiny brush handles, I advise people to hold them at the end instead of holding them near the brush bristles. It’ll keep your makeup looking flawless and prevent application from being harsh and streaky. When I got the hang of it, I actually preferred using them instead of my “normal” makeup brushes when I returned back home. They cost me $12 at Ulta and it was so worth it.
