I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas! Every year, I feel so differently about this holiday. As a kid, I looked forward to the infinite amount of baked sweets and wrapped presents. I loved how Christmas, more so than any other holiday, brought spirit and joy to everyone around the world. When I became a teenager, Christmas started to feel so jaded as I discovered the hardships life brought me. Although I loved how it brought happiness to others, the holidays didn’t fix the insecurities and problems that I felt about myself. It took time to realize that Christmas, or the holiday season for that matter, wasn’t about feeling Hallmark-happy all the time. Now, as an adult, I’ve learned to hold onto the memories and the spirit of Christmas, because having a holiday that brings people you love closer is a rarity. One, that I cherish now that life is continuously unpredictable in many ways.
It’s these thoughts about Christmas that make me understand the importance of celebrating it with who I’m with and what I’m wearing. In collaboration with Irene Santos on this holiday fashion series (see part I here), I am so excited to share with you a glamorous Christmas outfit. Irene and I shot this right in front of the Honeymoon Suite, a newfound favorite brunch spot we both tried out for the first time after this shoot. Although many people wear PJs and ugly sweaters, I’m excited to share a different spin on holiday fashion wear and show a dressy way to style a Christmas outfit.
You know the drill….let’s talk about these thigh high black boots! I mentioned these boots before on a previous post here, and I brought it back to my holiday fashion series because I love them that much. They are classic boots that are timeless and perfect for the winter, mainly because of the great leather quality and how the boot shape flatters the legs. I’m always in awe with how lightweight these boots are! The heel is the perfect height to elongate the legs while you can comfortably walk around the city. When you are looking for a classic boot, always try them on and make sure the arch of your foot is supported by the insoles. I have found a similar boot that you can walk with style here.
Houston’s winter weather is not as chilly as the North, so I wore sheer black tights for this outfit. Although tights are such an overlooked fashion piece, investing in great quality tights are ideal for wearing them all season long! I personally purchase Hanes Silk Reflections because these tights last longer than any tight/pantyhose company I’ve tried. The silky stretch to the tights feel like a second layer of skin to my legs, and the opacity of the tights have the perfect sheerness to them that look great for any holiday outfit. One trick I do when I decide on purchasing tights is to stretch the fabric and let go of it, checking if the tights go back to its original shape. You always want to purchase tights that have good elasticity, so it can really fit and shape you when you are in constant motion. You can check some more black tights here.
For the statement piece of this outfit, I chose this gorgeous olive green trench coat. I wore a sweater dress underneath (which will be featured coming soon in Part III), but I buttoned and tied the coat to make it the “dress” of this outfit. Coats are everything when it comes to winter fashion, and I am truly fond of the design of this one! The buttons and the placement of them are cohesive to the coat color and high quality style, and the swooped coat lining gives it a fabulous A-line flair fit! The best part about this coat is the pleating. The pleats in the arm sleeve and the extra flaps on the chest area give this coat a Sherlock Holmes-vibe that is truly one-of-a-kind. I found a similar green coat here that would also look great paired with a belt!
For accessories, I paired this outfit with a gold plated choker necklace! I am always on the hunt for shopping high quality, timeless jewelry, and I love how this necklace easily makes any outfit look upscale. The gold accent to this outfit creates the perfect “pop” of color, and it really elevates the look into becoming more sleek and stylish. When I paired it with the coat, it totally reminded me of Gossip Girl and the lavish lifestyle of the upper east side. I found a similar gold choker necklace, available for a limited time, here.
Hope you enjoyed reading about this city style holiday look! Although I think it’s a great outfit for Christmas, it can really look fabulous any time of the season.
