Life seems pretty stylish and glamorous the moment you get the opportunity to attend amazing fashion shows and galleries in New York Fashion Week. However, the big question you ask yourself is, “What am I going to wear?” As you can see from my old fashion posts, I’ve attended NYFW in the past and admittedly stressed out on the outfit prep work. I rented clothes, tried to form sponsorships around fashion shows, and even borrowed last minute items from family and friends to elevate my looks to be “trendy” and “fashion forward.” There are moments post-NYFW where I would feel so stressed from the experience that I would need to recover from the bustle of it all. I would tell people, “It was so worth it, but the amount of work to prepare for this? Never again!” However, it wasn’t until I looked through my mom’s vintage clothes from the 80’s where I had a new brilliant idea: I want to wear my mom’s clothes during New York Fashion Week.
Although my mom has never been one to look flashy, her style has definitely influenced the way I dress today. I mean…she did dress me from my own free will during my early years of life. However, she has always allowed me to express my own individual style, even from an early age. And I explored it by sneaking into my mom’s closet, trying on her heels, and looking through her jewelry boxes. It felt befitting to wear her vintage clothes at a NYFW fashion event – because I don’t want to be known for my style without acknowledging her as my inspiration.
So, I hope you enjoy this photo diary of my time in New York Fashion Week! Keep scrolling to see similar fashion items to help recreate this look today.
I Wore my Mom’s Clothes During NYFW
Hunter Green Vest Dress
This dress is ev-er-y-thing to me! I adore the hunter green shade of the dress and the structured embroidered vest that is attached to it. The fabric is thick enough to keep you warm, and I personally cuffed the sleeves to keep them at a 3/4 length. I paired it with black sock ankle booties, gold jewelry, and wore a maroon Coach saddle bag for the occasion. Wear a similar look when you click the links below.

Striped Navy Set
This navy nautical set is personally one of my favorite pieces that my mom has worn. I love the striped wide legged pants and how it pairs perfectly with the blazer top. To make it more modern, I styled it be opening the front buttons for a cropped top look. I also paired it with black sock booties and a designer clutch to complete the look.
