Here’s a fun fact about me: I wanted to live in San Francisco ever since I was in college. I blame watching too many episodes of Full House and That’s So Raven as a child for making me think of San Francisco as this dreamy, mysterious city. And judging from the travel shows and the Instagram photos I’ve seen, I felt so deeply connected to San Francisco all while never actually visiting it. My dream of visiting San Francisco in person finally came true last summer.
And….that trip gave a new perspective. Yes, there were so many parts of the city that I loved. In many ways, it was everything I imagined it would be. Plus, the weather? It was so perfect, I couldn’t believe it.
Yet, the beauty of the city also tarnished my idea of San Francisco. Those gorgeous, hilly streets? I realized it was too chaotic for me to drive in and navigate. Encountering the homeless people around Haight-Ashbury was interesting….and I also got sticker shocked at how much avocado toast costs when I looked at a random cafe menu. Still, I found endless ways to enjoy my time in San Francisco – and grateful to have experienced the good, bad, and interesting things about it.
