When I buy flight tickets, I usually choose itineraries that have a long layover at a another popular destination in order to get a good deal for my round trip. So, when Tokyo was an option, I knew I had to take the offer! The whole time I was in Japan, I kept rethinking the same thought over and over again: I was totally born in the wrong country.
I adapted and connected so well with the Japanese culture- their food, people, fashion, music, and history. A funny moment (and major culture shock!) was during my first night in Japan when I attempted to close a taxi door as I stepped inside. Apparently, cars have automatic features due to the country’s high tech innovation- that also includes houses, drink/food machines, photo booths, and even toilets! It was my first time visiting a country where I wasn’t familiar with the language or had any relatives living in the area, so I definitely was a little nervous at first when I booked the trip. However, I can’t help but feel so incredibly thankful for the people I’ve met along my traveling journey.So, thank you to my friend and Japanese sister, Ayana, for welcoming me to her beautiful country and for her family’s hospitality. One memory I will cherish is when I first saw the cherry blossom trees- definitely worth seeing if you’ve never visited Japan! The flowers are delicate to touch, and you can’t help but gasp at the way the trees sway against the wind while petals fall down to your feet.
