So happy to announce a new series in my blog, “How to Dress!” After having so many people comment and ask about what clothes and accessories I wear during my trips, I’m happy to share some fashion inspo and tips of how I travel in style. With the frequent amounts of trips I take, it’s nearly impossible for me to own a grand closet and travel the world all the time, but I’m happy to inspire you in how to be resourceful with your own clothes and to make the most out of chic, affordable fashion. There’s no question about why people should travel to New Orleans. The culture, amazing food, and lively music is what attracts people to the city every day. When I traveled to New Orleans early July, I researched various areas and constantly checked the weather conditions in regards to the wardrobe I brought for my trip. Now, the weather was particularly questionable since I was worried about the rain throughout most of the trip. However, once I knew it was going to be sunny, I was really excited in preparing outfits. The city is constantly known for it’s bright colored historic houses and mansions, so I ended up choosing summer outfits that fit the vibrant scenery of the city.

Fuchsia against mint green walls? Not a problem. Use my code “RESSA” for a Muk Luks discount!
1. Don’t be Matchy-Matchy
With all the colorful houses and local art surrounding you, who cares if you don’t match the background? I wanted to create outfits that really embraced the crayon-house colors of the Irish Channel and Garden District. Wearing neon yellow against orange or wearing fuchsia against red really emphasizes the color hues of your wardrobe and elevates your summery style. Here are some pieces I think would perfectly fit the color scheme of NOLA:

The cold shoulder, stud details, and draped hemline are reasons why I chose this top.
2. Give More Shape to Your Outfits
Because many of the backdrops you’ll most likely take photos against are geometric in shape (i.e: rectangular houses), incorporating an outfit that has lots of dimension and shape would make you stand out in the city. I’m really fond of ruffles, fringes, and cutouts paired with light fabrics, like cotton or chiffon, for a summer vacay style. The clothing shown below are affordable pieces I believe will bring a whimsical-feel for your trip:

This dress from HM is a travel dress fave of mine! So easy to wear and can be dressed up or down for any occasion.
3. Say Yes to Prints!
With the high energy and bustle of the French Quarter, wearing prints is a fun option when looking your best at NOLA. I find that floral, gingham, and tie-dye are popular choices for summer pieces this year. However, I’ve been really drawn to checker, houndstooth, and polka dots as well. Choosing prints that are not commonly worn is a great way for your outfit to make a statement. Here are pieces I think would suit the look:
