Being safe and sound from Hurricane Harvey this weekend made me inspired to share a lookbook that’s perfect for rainy days! Before I write my process of creating each look, I want to say that I am so inspired and in awe with my city and how strong we are through this difficult time. I’m so glad that my family and friends are safe from the storm, and I hope anyone who was affected from the Hurricane finds peace and recovery in time.Everyone who reached out to me have been so sweet for thinking of me; please note that I am okay. As of writing this post, I still have electricity, internet, clean water, and zero property damages. The most tragic thing that happened was having 2 inches of water in the street…during the most violent hurricane episodes (nothing in comparison to what other people have been going through). With all the chaos happening in my city, I find that creativity has helped normalize my days, kept me sane from cabin fever, and uplifted my spirits.

When looking through my photos, I stumbled upon my photo shoot with Elvis, one of my favorite Houston photographers, back in April. Although it was months ago, I still remembered the drive going to Galveston and wishing it would rain that day so we could have a rainy photo shoot! It was a thrill standing close to the ocean waves and watching the sky change into a hue of gray. I’ve been waiting for the opportunity to feature this shoot on my blog with justice, so I hope you enjoy looking through the outfits in these photos.

When it comes to gloomy weather, it may bring you less motivation to dress well. However, I find that these are the moments when style is important. Finding inspiration in your closet to wear an outfit that makes you feel your best can make the world of a difference when you are going out on a rainy day or staying in with your family and friends. Read on about how I created some of my rainy day looks:

LOOK #1: STORMY RED– Athleisure Look
Picture

Dressing in comfortable and casual clothes doesn’t mean you can’t be stylish, so I sported a look incorporating athleisure clothing for those days when you want to be comfy and sporty all-in-one.  For the top, I kept it really simple as I wore a black top with a matching windbreak jacket* that is super lightweight. However, I still felt warm from the chilly rain since the fabric is perforated. The jacket is perfect for windy days and I love how easily you can fold it up and carry it around your luggage for trips! For accessories, I simply wore a pair of classic Raybans to give off that “chill” look. The lens have a black-gray tint to it that really ties into the black clothing attire. If you are deciding on whether or not to invest in high quality sunglasses, I really recommend in getting a brand like Raybans to protect your eyes from UV Rays. This outfit wouldn’t be the same if not for wearing the sunglasses and jacket hood on!

For the bottom portion of my outfit, I kept the all-black clothing cohesive with black athletic pants in a yoga pant fit. I absolutely loveeeeeee my Champion pants because they are so comfortable! Similar to the windbreak jacket, the pants are moisture-free and wind resistant with it’s duo-dry fabric. Plus, I really adore the reflective details on the side panels of the pants and zipper pocket!Lastly, what completes the outfit are my shiny red rain boots. I like the length of these boots in comparison to Hunter Boots because it is mid-calf length. I love wearing my rain boots during raining days because it brightens up any outfit! The boots bring a red color accent to the outfit. Outside of rainy weather, I also wear them when gardening to be mud-free! These red rain boots are perfect to walk around all day and look stylish.

LOOK #2: Polka Dots than Raindrops– Preppy Look

For a more girly and preppy look, consider wearing a bright colored dress! I changed up the look by pairing the red boots with a minty blue polka dot dress. The red and bright blue color combo makes the ensemble have that elegant, sophisticated vibe. The polka dot print and vibrant blue color reminds of Old Hollywood fashion or the “I Love Lucy” days. A one-piece outfit, such as a dress, can make you look stylish effortlessly.I kept the shiny red rain boots from the previous look for this outfit because I wanted to create a different color scheme. The mint blue and fire engine red pieces resemble a crayola-like color scheme that any color enthusiast would adore! Rain boots are the best shoe wear for wet and windy conditions because of the shoe material that makes it easier to walk in slippery surfaces. Not only does a pair of rain boots make you look great in stormy conditions, but it keeps your feet safe and dry!

Lastly, I completed this outfit with a fun, clear umbrella that’s perfect for the rain! The shape of the umbrella is really sturdy and keeps the rain flow away from you and your clothing. Clear umbrellas are great as a prop for photo shoots and compliments any style. All in all, I think that rain gear can elevate any outfit you wear.
