The secret to “living large” in Houston is to stay at a fancy schmancy hotel, they say. Sounds simple, right? Get a bottle of wine, order room service, and dance around in your pj’s with a window view of the city skyline. Having the fancy treatment can easily fulfill your luxury lifestyle dreams. However, there are few hotels in Houston that can surpass the expectations of what it means to travel luxuriously. Uptown Houston is the main hub for shopping and fine dining, so when I had the opportunity to experience the district while staying at the iconic Royal Sonesta Houston hotel, I knew I would experience my home city differently than any other hotel.
It was a given that the Royal Sonesta Houston is in a league of their own. When I first laid eyes on this Houston hotel, I couldn’t believe how grand it was! With the tall palm trees in the middle of the driveway entrance, I felt like I was entering inside a whole new city from where I was born and raised. With the valet team assisting me with my bags, I was ready for a newfound adventure!
Words to describe my initial impression of the lobby area are accommodating, chic, and contemporary in design. Nothing surprised me as far as the hotel’s color theme and interior design layout, but the overall look of it was truly the epitome of what a 5 star hotel should look like. The staff was helpful with checking me in efficiently and they were very courteous to escort me to my floor. I was on my way to my hotel room!
The lazy hotel room life officially begins! It was way too early to get dressed in pjs and lounge around the room. However, I couldn’t pass the opportunity to relax in my new bed. The hotel room had a crisp, white minimalistic design with neutral tones and prints. The entire decor and carpet flooring had a cohesive theme, and while the design is simple, I appreciated how cohesive the room looked. There was a TV right across from my bed and by the door was where the bathroom and closet area were located. What I loved most about the room was my window view of the city skyscrapers! I had never seen Uptown Houston so close-up before, and it was a huge pinch-me moment.
After relaxing, it was time to check out the rest of hotel! First, I was able to get access to the club lounge of the hotel. The minute I walked in, I could picture myself lounging and watching TV everyday. There’s a kitchen and desk area for people to dine and host meetings as well. The open windows made the lounge so lively! My brief hang out at the club lounge made me excited to see what else the hotel had to offer! With a quick elevator down to the 5th floor, I discovered the gym/pool area.
I was excited to find the swimming area outdoors; the nautical striped prints looked so colorful and fun! With beautiful weather, I can see why the pool and jacuzzi is a huge hit! While I was walking around, I immediately noticed the rooftop view of the city. This area is perfect for families and social gatherings. While the pool size is standard, I highly enjoyed soaking in the jacuzzi before I headed out to the lobby.
Now, it was finally time to really explore the hotel’s first floor! I liked how the lounge had sleek, suede seating and a bar area. I couldn’t resist relaxing for a bit and enjoying the window view. Right across the lounge, I had a mocha cappuccino break at their stylish coffee shop. After my first sip, I couldn’t help but think, “Who wouldn’t enjoy this lobby?” Afterwards, I continued checking out the conference area where I discovered their ginormous rooms and huge staircase. The entire area looked exceptional! With the amount of conference rooms and ballroom areas I saw, I could imagine this place ideal for events and conferences. All in all, I was pleased with Royal Sonesta Houston’s amenities and service.
