Happy Halloween! As you can see, I’ve gone all pink this year with my furry sidekick! Legally Blonde is one of the most popular chick flicks during the early 2000’s, and I knew I wanted to recreate this look one day for Halloween:
It was something about the pink leather jacket, flashy sunglasses, and cute pup in this photo that made me wish I was Elle Woods when I was in first grade. Every Halloween, I always try to make a costume that reflects my year. Elle Woods, a fashion student who pursued attending Harvard Law, dropped everything for the guy of her dreams…only to find herself proving to others her capability to be a successful lawyer despite her colleagues (and now ex-boyfriend) believing otherwise. Although my life story isn’t entirely aligned with the movie plot, the obstacles Elle Woods faced when she was building her career really spoke to me now that I’m an adult trying to overcome the ideal expectations from my past and embrace the new changes in my future. And of course, with my new pet Rajah, I knew he was the Bruiser to my Elle! To me, this costume is a big statement for female empowerment! Plus, I also wanted to wear pink to showcase Breast Cancer Awareness Month, too. Continue reading on to learn how you can also create this Halloween look!
Elle Woods Costume
Despite my previous years, this costume was surprisingly the easiest to recreate! I already owned the pink leather pencil skirt, so I only had to purchase the pink leather jacket and sunglasses. When you look at the pieces above, you can see that I’ve purchased the pink leather jacket from ASOS for under $50 ( a great bargain for the quality) here. I was initially shocked to have easily found one online that matched my skirt, so I knew it was meant to be! I have also included similar pink jackets and pencil skirts that would compliment each other for this costume, too.
As for the accessories, it was a challenge to find a pair of black framed sunglasses with bright pink lens. Mine were found in my local Target from the brand “Hello Sunshine,” which is unfortunately not available to purchase online. I found a similar pair from DIFF Eyewear that also would work with this look here. On my search finding a red bag, I was surprised to see the wide selection of red satchel bags still in stores today. This particular red purse really completes the whole look. With your pretty in pink outfit, you’re officially ready to attend Harvard!
Bruiser’s DIY Halloween Costume
Rajah was the star of the show with his Bruiser outfit! Carrie Ann Boutique, one of the best local designer stores in Houston, came to the rescue to provide me a solid pink dog shirt for this DIY! I was a little unsure of my dog costume-making skills, but after improvising with some photos for reference, I was really happy with the way the Rajah’s costume turned out!
DIY Bruiser Costume
Materials:
- 1 solid pink dog shirt
- 1 package of purple felt (mine were $1.30 from Michaels)
- 1 permanent fabric glue
- Stencil of the letter “H”
- Scissors
- Pen/Pencil
Step 1:
Print out a stencil of the letter “H.” I found mine via StencilLetters.org if you want to use the same block letter template. After you print it out, cut out the letter with scissors.

Step 2:
Place the cut-out stencil on top of your purple felt. Trace out the letter on felt using a pen or pencil and then use scissors to cut it out. You can have the option to use a measurement tape to help glue the letter “H” in the middle of the dog shirt, but I “eyeballed” mine and it turned out okay!

Step 3:
Next, measure the width of the neck and sleeve lining. That’s going to depend on the design of the dog shirt you’ve purchased (mine was approximately an inch.) Trace an inch on the edge of the purple felt. Next, cut out the felt using scissors. The amount of length depends on the size of your dog! When you attached the purple lining on the costume, you can measure the length of the sleeve and neckline, but I cut out the excess felt as I glued it to the costume. Once you’ve finished gluing the purple felt lining, I made sure to re-glue certain spots of the felt to make sure it stays in place and hung the shirt overnight.

Voila! You and your pet are now ready to star in Legally Blonde! Since I didn’t wear a wig or dye my hair, I told my friends I’m simply “Legally Asian!” Have fun with creating this costume and feel free to tweak it to your liking! You look so pretty… and the dog is so cute 🙂 I love the pink color which represents caring, compassion and love ! I like to look at all of the crazy costumes people wear or create by themselves. Halloween is a time of the year where you can freely express what character you’ve wanted to be since you were a little girl.
