Howdy, ya’ll! Although I don’t normally say this to people on a daily basis, hearing that greeting always puts a smile to my face; because when it comes to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, everyone is welcome to join in on the country, western fun! And with every Rodeo I attend each year, it brings back old memories of me wearing my cowgirl boots, eating a turkey leg, and watching some of the most intense horse riding competitions. The Houston Rodeo also showcases some of the most popular music concerts! I fondly rememeber my first music concert when Destiny’s Child performed at the Houston Rodeo in 2001. It’s the one time in the year where I am fully immersed with the southern fun of Texas.
This year, I ended up going to the Houston Rodeo carnival and relived some of the memories I had when I was a little girl. So, one thing I just had to purchase right when I entered inside was carnival food, and sharing a plate of BBQ wings and a tray of fried Oreos was delightful! The mixture scents of the BBQ sauce and powdered sugar made me realize how tasty and unhealthy it was all at once! That fact that I will never ever eat another tray of fried desserts after the rodeo makes me able to unguiltly indulge in food- especially before summer season! hahaAfterwards, I scoped around the carnival games and rides! My, how the carnival seems to expand each year! It’s an amazing feeling to be surrounded by my Houston community and watch all the fun take place. Although I must admit, not being able to win a prize this year made me remember how horrible I am at playing carnival games! If you ever want to win a stuffed animal at the Houston Rodeo, don’t forget to strengthen your upper body strength and hand-eye coordination for all the endless game booths!
At the Livestock Show, there are tons of vendors, farm animals, and shows to see! I love discovering local businesses in Houston- you can find all sorts of Texas swag to add to your wardrobe. With the endless booths, I also found a mini stadium where they host small farm animal competitions, like goat racing, herding, etc. If you ever wanted to see farm animals in person- look no further! There was a petting zoo inside, but I opted to avoid the long line and see the cows and goats instead! Animals are safely housed in different areas of the livestock show, and with permission, you can also take photos and pet them as well. That’s a local secret!
I think the best part about the Houston Rodeo is feeling the Texas pride in our city. There’s so much to appreciate in our culture, and I’m glad that I’ve been able to experience attending it every year. I hope you all enjoyed a glimpse of my experience! Let me know what you think- do you want to attend the Houston Rodeo? Be on the lookout for more of my travel adventures on Instagram, too!

I grew up in Houston and I loved going to the Rodeo too! There is so much to do and see (and eat!) with the carnival, animals, rodeo events and the concert after. Did you watch mutton bustin’? It’s too cute!
