Early in the morning, I had the opportunity to take a day trip to Golden, CO. To be honest, I didn’t know what to expect once I arrived. Because I saw Downtown Denver the last time I was in Colorado, I decided to be hands-off with my itinerary and go with the flow with where I wanted to explore outside the city. That morning, I came across the name “Golden, CO” on Google and saw that it was only 30 minutes away. Despite knowing nothing about the place, it intrigued me enough to take a drive there. I ended up seeing the most beautiful mountains and local shops around the historic district. However, it wasn’t until after I saw the town view from Lookout Mountain that I actually understood the unique beauty of this town.
Where I’ve Been in Golden, CO
Golden, CO was first discovered in 1859 and it became Colorado territory in 1871. It’s located along the Rocky Mountains and is home to the headquarters of Coors Brewery. When I took a morning tour to visit Coors Brewery, I was treated to some of the best beer! If you ever visit, I suggest trying a sample of the Colorado Native. I met locals from Golden during the tour that explained how the town was actually named after Thomas L. Golden after his courageous act of saving a friend. You can read more about the history of Golden, CO here.
Afterwards, I decided to take a quick walk up Lookout Mountain to take a view of the entire town. I was a little hesitant since there was some leftover snow on the ground from the past few days. However, I parked along the side of the trail halfway up and walked the rest of the way. The air felt fresh from the mountain top, and when I first saw the view of Golden, CO, I immediately teared up. Looking at Golden from a distance made me grateful and joyous, especially since it was something I didn’t even plan to see that day. I sat on the snow for a few minutes to take in the moment.
Afterwards, I decided to have brunch at the Golden historic district. I immediately fell in love with the entire area! There were lots of local businesses that were right next to each other in the same block and the various brick buildings looked pretty with the Rocky Mountain backdrop. I ended up dining at The Golden Diner, which is one of the most popular local eateries in town for some amazing omelettes. Afterwards, I had a blast ending the day taking scenic photos of the rest of the historic district.
After my trip to Golden, I still reflected on this day throughout the remainder of my trip. Needless to say, I highly recommend visiting this beautiful town. Enjoyed reading about my time in Golden? Really beautiful photography. Just looking at the town I wouldn’t have thought there would be mountains in the background.

This town does look like a fantastic little find! It’s so great that you went with your instinct and went there simply based on the name. I love exploring in that way.

I have been to Colorado a few times, but not here. I’ve mainly been to Denver and Colorado Spring, but now I have Golden on my travel radar!

Your pictures are so beautiful; I especially love the mountainous scenery and that you can see a lot of the city from on top of the mountain! I also love that the town seems very peaceful and quiet, and that it seems that you can be relaxed there, and not in a hurry or stressed. Great post!
